Patchwork Farms

A New (Old) Way to Feed a Community

What if feeding your neighbours didn’t require 100 acres and a tractor?

What if it just took… a garden?

Patchwork Farms is our way of rethinking what a “farm” can be — not a single large plot of land, but a network of small gardens, backyards, church lawns, and school grounds, all growing food together under one shared vision.

It’s not a new idea.
It’s how villages used to eat.

How It Works

We grow food across a collection of donated or borrowed garden spaces.
Each space becomes part of a “patchwork” — one bigger farm made of many small plots, right here in the community.

Oak & Acre handles:

  • Planning what gets planted, where, and when
  • Providing seedlings, compost, and supplies
  • Maintaining the gardens throughout the season
  • Harvesting, washing, and distributing produce
  • Returning some of the harvest to the landholder each week as a thank-you

What You Can Offer

You don’t need to know how to grow.
You just need to have space — and be willing to let us put it to work for something bigger.

We’re looking for:

  • Backyards and front gardens (even just a few square metres!)
  • Allotments not currently being used
  • School and church grounds
  • Retirement homes with garden space
  • Even sunny corners where we can grow in containers

If you’ve got space with sun, soil, and access to water, we’d love to talk.

What You Get in Return

As a land partner, you’ll receive:

  • A share of the fresh food grown on your land and others
  • The joy of watching something beautiful grow
  • A real connection to the food system you’re helping rebuild

You don’t need to lift a finger — unless you want to.

Some people just provide space.
Others like to lend a hand or get their kids involved.
We’ll work with whatever level of involvement fits your life.

Why This Matters

This model:

  • Brings food production back into towns and villages
  • Keeps harvests within walking distance of the people who eat them
  • Reduces transport, emissions, and waste
  • Regenerates soil in places that were never meant to be lawns
  • Builds community connection through a shared, living system

And it works.

A dozen small plots, when well-managed, can produce hundreds of pounds of fresh food — fast.

The Long-Term Vision

As our patchwork grows, we’ll:

  • Add new gardens each season
  • Train volunteers and young growers
  • Supply our Harvest Hub and CSA boxes
  • Keep food within a 10-mile radius — truly local
  • Expand to other towns using the same model

Eventually, the goal is for every community to feed itself — one backyard at a time.

Want to Offer Space?

If you’ve got a garden, an allotment, or even just a patch of lawn that could feed someone — reach out.
We’ll come have a look, talk you through the process, and see if it’s a fit.

This isn’t a garden makeover.
This is a food revolution.

And it only works when people like you say, “Yes — use my land.”
